Waiting on the rain

July 28, 2008 at 10:25 am (Life) (, , , , , , , , )

Apparently today will be cold with thundery showers! hehe i’m waiting for it lol cos it looks a bit too bright outside to rain just yet, that could change though. I love rain, and i especially love thunder hehehe. It is however not that warm outside so my fingers are crossed.

I did get my call from the one job that had two positions, i didn’t get either unfortunately. My biggest problem is that i don’t have any references in australia – they’re all in america or new zealand. So I’m looking into volunteering for a wee bit just to get back in the swing of things and to get references etc here. Its an idea anyway.

We’ve been watching tv series online the past couple of days, so now we’re caught up with the end of season 5 of NCIS, and i’m watching “ghost whisperer” from the beginning (since i’ve only just gotten into it), and they have things like gilmore girls, monk, supernatural, and many many more. We’re using “Project Free TV” check it out!

Interview and gary’s back!

July 18, 2008 at 5:04 pm (Life) (, , , , )

Well, The interview went really good and I’m more than happy to work my way up from a promoter to a photographer so the only thing left is for them to call and tell me I got the job (if indeed I did).

The ladies were really nice, very interested in hearing about my travelling and history, asking me things about why I left the states, what made me decide australia, etc etc. I’m happy with my answers and I think I proved to them that i’m the right person for the job. They didn’t say when they’d make their decision but i’m hoping its soon.

As for “Gary”, he’s our pet gecko! actually, he moved in about a week after we did and suddenly disappeared – we thought he’d met a nasty end in a door or something. Turns out he was making his way down the hall to the laundry room, where he was spotted one evening, then detoured through the bathroom on the way to my room! which is where i found him today while getting ready for my interview! I don’t mind, he’s since moved from one side of the room to the other, and i’m hoping will either go back to living above our wardrobe or vacate the room to go into the spare room. Don’t get me wrong I like the guy but he creeps me out a little with how fast he moves when he’s scared and how still he stays when i’m watching him. Photo’s coming soon.

Besides that things are cruising along well, still throwing applications in anywhere that will take them so i’m sure i’ll be employeed soon, if not with this company, then hopefully somewhere else and soon!

Hope everyone’s well, missing you all xoxox

Good news with potential for more ..and a side of showers

July 16, 2008 at 12:46 pm (Life) (, , , , , , , , )

Yep Its raining!!! yay. I really do love the rain.

Anyways my good news: I had an interview today with a photography company here in australia! In fact, it went really well (and yay that my interviewer was also from christchurch, NZ!). Anyways I impressed her enough to bring me back for a second interview on friday so fingers crossed and if you can spare it, please send me positive energy! cheers guys xoxox There’s two positions i’m going for, One is for a promoter at malls and the other is for a casual photographer, both are wages though with the potential to get commissions and bonuses but I don’t care much about the money thing.

In other news, to be honest i don’t think there is much other news at the moment. Its rainy, the dog smells and needs another visit with the dog groomer, my neck feels better today (second day in about 1 1/2 weeks), and i’m bored! lol In fact I think i’m going to go throw on a dvd while I do some crossword puzzles :)

peace, love and cookies! xoxox

holy bunny feet batman, its winter!

July 11, 2008 at 10:17 am (Life) (, , , )

Dear lord its chilly this morning, nowhere near as bad as wisconsin but after the warm weather i’ve had since now its like a cold snowball down the back of the shirt – not fun!

Next job interview at this stage is on the 16th at a photography company. They have two positions available, one is as a promoter at malls and the other is for a part time photographer at their studio. So fingers crossed one of those will be right, and if I start out in the promoter roll, i’m hoping its not commission based. I’m still putting applications in to other places aso we’ll see what happens.

YAY I just checked the local libraries website and i’m now only 54th in line for a book!!!! Not bad considering I started out at 76 or 74th (something in the 70’s thats for sure). I might actually get to read it by December at this rate!!!! *happy dance*.

I’m slowly getting through my list of things I wanted to do today, I’ve got a few more emails to friends that I promised, need to hunt out a couple of recipes for another friend, and at some point have some breakfast. Actually I think I should probably go get some of those things done…. starting with breakfast

Lazy Weekends

July 6, 2008 at 4:15 pm (Life) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Today was really cruisy. Woke up about 8am but wasn’t feeling the best so I decided to take it easy. I felt like i’d been smacked in the back of the head by a 2×4! Thankfully after a couple of pandol and a 4minute hot shower, I was feeling a bit better.  For those who are wondering 4 minutes is the limit for shower in these here parts at the moment thanks to a drought. Or at least I think its 4 minutes, It might only be 3 minutes – in which cause I was a bit naughty to be in there for longer. Yay for water conservation!

We’ve been watching a lot of movies lately, and i’m loving it. I watched the first 3 karate kid movies over the past couple of days and loved it – dad watched as well it was the first time he’d seen any of them. We also rented a few new releases that we’d seen in the states before we left (“Jumpers” just to name one). Right now Patrick and dad are watching “300″ (i’ve seen it like 10 times or so). We’ve also seen the first season on dexter and the first season of supernatural thanks to a friend with an addiction to buying/watching really good tv shows. In return i’ve got her hooked on Dead Like me *grins*.

Now I think i’m going to go continue reading. I’ve got a few books waiting to be read before they get returned this week and one of them is frustrating me. Its quite hard to get into unfortunately, and so far its not living up to any of the reviews of it i’ve seen – that makes me sad. I had high hopes for it. Oh well, you win some you lose some right?

Independence Day and other stuffs

July 4, 2008 at 9:29 am (Life) (, , , , , , , )

So today is Idependence day in america, and It frustrates me that I missed out on celebrating my favourite american holiday this year (tied with thanksgiving) – for the first time in 4years.

I still remember my first 4th of july celebrations. We drove to Medford, Wi (which was near us), and sat by the river amongst a tonne of families. Patrick, myself and John. It was fun. I felt like a little kid before, especially during the pyrotechnics display when they set of what I call the “sonic boom” fireworks – you could feel that thing vibrate through your body it was great!

Now thats not the only reason I liked the holiday of course (though it was kinda a plus seeing as americans don’t have guy fawkes night (november), so it filled the once a year fireworks quota for me. But I liked what the holiday stood for, the reason behind it. No matter what people say, America is still one of the places I’ll call home, I’m just a bit sad that it took moving to the other side of the world to realise how much that country means to me.

Another realisation I came to today, hate him or like him – this is the LAST year that independence day will be celebrated with GWB at the helm of the american ship! HUZZAH I’m not a bush support, and this fact gives me great happiness to know his reign is almost at an end.

In other news, Still job hunting (I know, shock horror etc). Still reading a lot (again with the shock huh?), and the weather is still really nice (a bit cold at nights, but i’m greatful for that).

9am and I’m sitting here blogging

July 1, 2008 at 8:27 am (Life) (, , , , , , , , , )

Where to begin! what a week its been…and its only tuesday! fingers crossed the rest of week continues nicely.

Firstly, Didn’t get the job at the bookstore, I missed out because of one other lady who had more experience at being in a managerial role. Nevermind though, she’s keeping my resume on hand and will give me a call if anything else comes up. I also got a letter from the council saying that my application I submitted when I first got here was unsuccessful. To be honest I haven’t heard from them in about 2 months so its no big surprise, I figured I hadn’t gotten the job. Then again it did take 11 days for the letter to make its way to me lol (and I thought the american postal service was bad, this is in a major city! not a rural area).

I applied to a handful of places last night, and i’ll send out more resumes later today and see what response I get.

Not much on the cards today besides reading, applying for jobs, doing housework. Such is life huh? I’m not sure what we’ll have for dinner tonight, maybe corned silverside or sausages…. tough choices!

Random fact for my American friends reading this – “Burger King” is called “Hungry Jacks” over here, and boy is it good. We stopped in there for a treat the other day (first time in about 3 weeks having junk food), and I was really impressed. The burger wasn’t greasy, it didn’t leave me with a sick feeling in my stomach, the fries were good – not dripping with grease either. I think I found my replacement for Hardee’s! granted the burger sizes are smaller than Hardee’s, but lets face it – I had trouble finishing a Hardee’s burger, even the smaller ones.

Dad and Patrick are doing well, as is Jasper (he’s all pretty and clean thanks to the wonderful dog groomer). In fact Jasper’s curled up next to me, he follows me all over the house – if I leave a room, he’s right there behind me. Its cute! Its weird having a dog around, when i’ve been surrounded by cats for a long time, but its nice. He’s such a sweetheart, and while he’s not a young puppy and not as active as he might’ve once been, he has this cheeky side to him that I can’t help but adore. He has a favourite friend now – a stuffed crocodile toy, he loves chewing it and playing tug of war with it.

Well I should get going, Its time to have breakfast and get the washing going,

take care guys xoxox
